Architectural Marvels

Every temple construction in India has a story behind it, which is hard to believe. Some of it could be understood with the logic, but some still baffle the normal as well as the engineers. Some things still remain a mystery and doubts arise when learning about these facts.

Everyone knows the famous Konark Sun Temple. But do you know we are having only half of the building? Yes, the main building or the Garbhagraha was destroyed. The Sun temple built by king Narasimhadeva I has three buildings one after the other starting from the Nata Mandir to the Deul(temple tower). It was aligned in such a way that the first rays of the sun will pass through the Nata Mandir and fall and reflect on the diamond placed on the crown of the sun god. This one isn't the only thing. In the Deul or the main tower, the idol is made levitated in the air. Hard to believe right? It is true and our ancestors were scientific pioneers of the world. They used a magnet inside the top of the tower and made this possible. The power of the magnet is said to be holding the idol in air. For outsiders, it looks as if the idol is floating in the air. Sadly this structure was destroyed by the Portuguese sailors since the magnetic pull from the magnet collapsed the compass used by them. The force was said to be so strong, the sailors found it difficult to travel in seas.

This fact arises doubts as there was no evidence for the presence of the magnet in history. Some said the tower would have been destroyed by natural calamities. Hence this temple still remains a mystery.

Another temple which questions the entire construction procedure is the Kailash Ellora Temple, Maharashtra. This temple was built by Pallava artisans who were captured and made slaves by the Rashtrakurtas from the North. This temple thus resembles the Mahabalipuram construction. The wonder in it is that the whole temple is made from a single rock. It is said that this temple was carved from the top to the end ie., they constructed it in the reverse order. Without starting from the foundation, they started it from the tower. Also, there are no traces of the waste rocks and it is still a wonder how they managed to dispose this wastage. This is impossible in today's world and these monuments stand as proof for Indian's intelligence and skill.

We must protect these monuments as many of our properties have been looted by the invasion.
