Superstition makes you stupid

 The nation which was once called the ‘Golden Pigeon’ of the world turned into Pigeon shit.

   In our country, superstitions are multitudinous. I am not trying to blame all the religious beliefs as an act of stupidity. But still in this modern world there are many barbaric spiritual things are in practice. Some of them are explained in detail in previous posts.

 Likewise, during Puri Jagannath temple’s chariot festival, many devotees would deliberately fall before the wheels of the chariot to get killed. They committed this suicide on the supposition that they would go to heaven. In that period, many forms of suicides and female infanticide were in practice.

     
  This festival is a root cause for deforestation in Odhisha.Jagannath Temple needs 1,135 logs of about 400 cubic metres to build three chariots every year. This involves felling of nearly 1,000 trees of 13 species. Forests in Nayagarh and Khurda districts are the main source of timber for this.Used chariots are dismantled and the wood supplied as fuel to the temple’s kitchen that caters to 35,000-40,000 people every day.

   All superstitions are harmful since they deactivate the reasoning capacity of human beings.

     
 Some practices may also have scientific and practical reasons to be followed. It may be good psychologically. Follow things wisely. Believe the god inside you.
